Man fined for fraudulent breach of trust

A Tarkwa Circuit Court on Thursday sentenced Seidu Abubakari, a 55-year-old purchasing clerk, to one day imprisonment in hard labour for fraudulent breach of trust

The accused who pleaded guilty, is to refund an amount of 10,000 Ghana cedis entrusted in his care to purchase dried cocoa beans to the district manager of the Produce Buying Company at Wassa Ankonsia in the Western Region.

Passing sentence, the presiding Judge, Mr. Justice Obeng Asante considered the age of the accused.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court that Seidu is a purchasing clerk working with PBC branch at Wasa Ankonsia.

He said in 2012-2013 main cocoa season, the accused approached the complainant and collected an amount of 12,932 Ghana cedis to purchase sixty- one bags of dried cocoa beans for the Company.

Chief Inspector Paddy said the accused has failed to honor the promise and all efforts made to retrieved the amount proved futile.

He said on September 14, this year, the complainant reported the case to the police and Seidu was arrested for questioning.

The Prosecutor said during investigation, the accused refund only 2,000 Ghana cedis of the amount.
