Man drowns trying to save wife

Selasi Deku, a 36-year-old male resident of East Legon, Accra on Wednesday met his untimely death at the Boti Falls, a tourism site in the Eastern Region in an attempt to rescue his wife from drowning.

The deceased just got married three months ago and obviously took advantage of the relaxed work schedules of the Republic Day celebration to travel with his partner to have fun.

The wife, who is alive, according to reports, decided to swim with other friends, but moment after she dived into the river, late Deku realized his wife was being taken away by the swift waters.

An eyewitness said Deku attempted to save his wife, but was taken away by the flow of the river.

Rescue personnel at the scene who dived into the water were able to save the lady who is believed to be in her 30s.

Deku’s body was later retrieved by the rescue personnel and has since been deposited at the Koforidua Central Government Morgue for autopsy.

The unfortunate incident happened at 1pm on that fateful day, according to report.
