Man City Star Jérémy Doku Receives Ghanaian Passport

Rising football star Jérémy Baffour Doku has officially received his Ghanaian passport for the first time, marking a powerful personal milestone in his journey of reconnecting with his heritage.

The news was shared by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a Facebook post, where he expressed delight at fulfilling the Doku family’s heartfelt request.

“This was the wish of Jérémy and his family when they called on me last week, glad we successfully delivered chip-embedded passports today,” the minister wrote.

Doku, who was born in Belgium to Ghanaian parents and currently plays for the Belgian national team and Manchester City, holds dual citizenship and is legally entitled to a Ghanaian passport.

While the move doesn’t change his national football allegiance, it signals a deepening of his personal and cultural ties to Ghana.

“This significant development confirms Jérémy Baffour Doku’s commitment to fully reconnect with Ghana despite playing for Belgium,” Ablakwa said.

The 22-year-old winger has long expressed pride in his Ghanaian roots, often acknowledging the role his family’s heritage has played in shaping his identity and footballing journey.

Doku’s passport acquisition also serves as a broader reminder of the strong connections that members of the Ghanaian diaspora continue to maintain with their homeland.

“I wish him the very best in his illustrious career,” the Foreign Minister added.

As Doku continues to shine on the global football stage, his quiet but meaningful reconnection with Ghana resonates deeply at home, where his roots run strong and pride in his journey runs even deeper.
