Man charged with murder of Police Constable

Accra, Dec. 23, GNA- A 20-year-old unemployed who allegedly shot dead a police constable at Abenyase Zongo, near Amasaman in the Ga District, last Thursday appeared at a Circuit Court in Accra, charged with murder.

Sherrif Yusif Adams’s plea was not taken and he was remanded to reappear on January 28, 2005.

The prosecution said on December 17, this year, the police received information that some land guards were demolishing buildings at Amasaman and that Adams was the brain behind the act.

The prosecution said the Police at Amasaman called for reinforcement and the Highway Patrol team went to the scene at about 1100 hours in the company of a witness.

The prosecution said the witness identified Adams to the Police but he took to his heels. Police chased him and he hid himself in the bush. The deceased, Police Constable Donald Geraldo, 25, later saw Adams and ordered him to surrender but he took Geraldo unaware, snatched his weapon and opened fire on him, killing him instantly.

The prosecution said other policemen managed to arrest Adams and escorted him to the Police Station.
