Man beaten to death over phone

The Tema Police have arrested three people for allegedly murdering a 27-year-old man, known as Nyame Bekyere.

Police named the suspects as Aziz Abdulai, 20, Shaban Abubakari, 18 and Stephen Armoo, alias Zito, 23.

Narrating the incident to The Ghanaian Times, the Community one Police Commander, Superintendent Victor Amedeker, said at about 9:30 pm on December 19 Nyame Bekyere and a friend, Gordon Nartey, alias TT, went to a popular bar called “Corner Bar” at Site 14 in Community one Tema to have a drink.

While there they heard some shouting outside and went to see what was happening.

According to the Police Commander, the two men saw Aziz fighting with a woman, named as Jennifer, and they tried to separate them.

Aziz Abdulai accused the two men of stealing his mobile phone and money while trying to separate him and Jennifer, and called some friends on phone

Mr Amedeker said four friends of Aziz arrived at the scene and started beating Nyame Bekyere and Gordon Nartey.

Realizing that they could no longer withstand the blows, Nyame and Nartey took to their heels but were pursued by the gang which eventually caught up with Nyame at Site 15. They beat him until he collapsed and abandoned him.

Superintendent Amedeker said the Community one Night Patrol Team heard of the incident and went to the spot where they found Nyame Bekyere lying unconscious and rushed him to the Tema General Hospital for treatment but he died the next day.

Superintendent Amedeker said the three suspects were later arrested.
