Man attempts to poison wife

An Accra businessman, Ben Ayisi Addo, 38, has been arrested by police for allegedly trying to poison his wife?s food in order to kill her and claim a gas cylinder manufacturing plant, which belongs to both of them.

The couple with three children had been at loggerheads over the ownership of the factory and had not been on speaking terms for a long time even though the two until the incident, shared the same room at Dzorwulu in Accra.

The 40 year old woman, Madam Charity Asabea, told the police that it was her husband?s own sister, Evelyn Ayisi Addo, 20, who also doubles as their maid who alerted her and prevented her from eating the food.

She told the police that on Friday, 7 May, she returned home at about 8:30 and after showering went to the dining table to eat. Evelyn then alerted her that she saw his brother pour some liquid substance in a plastic bottle into her food. Madam Asabea then invited the police in to take possession of the alleged poisoned food. But her husband had emptied the plates and refused to show the police where the food was thrown.

Luckily, Evelyn saw where her brother, Ayisi Adodo had hidden the plastic bottle containing the remaining substance and led the police to it. The suspect was arrested the same night with the evidence and detained at the Tesano police. He has denied attempting to poison his wife but said the plastic bottle retrieved by the police is a herbal medicine for the vitality of men. Meanwhile Mr. Ayisi Addo has been thrown out of his marital home by Asabea?s relatives who own the house.
