Man attempts to jump to death at Airport

Accra, Dec. 8, GNA – There was a security scare at the Kotoka International Airport on Monday afternoon when a man managed to get to the balcony of the first floor of the Control Tower Block and threatened to throw himself down.

However, Civil Aviation Security Officers managed to grab him from behind, took him to the Aviation Clinic, where he was sedated before being taken to the Pantang Psychiatrist Hospital, near Accra.

The incident lasted for about 20 minutes.

Sitting at the edge of the balcony of the first floor, which is about 20 metres from the ground, the man looking unkempt and wearing dreadlocks started to urinate onto the cars parked below.

Fire tenders were brought in to get up to him and while his attention was focused on what was happening the Security Officers went behind and grabbed him.

A Security Officer had first accosted the man when he saw him loitering around the Tower Block but before he could radio for assistance he quickly used the emergency exit stairs and climbed to the balcony of the first floor.
