Man arrested for killing ex-lover

A heartless boy friend, suspected to have butchered his ex-girl friend at Tarkwa-Maakro in Kumasi at dawn on Thursday, has been arrested by the police.

Kwadwo Mpianin is said to have entered the room of the deceased, Ama Akyaa, a mother of two, and a hairdresser, at about 0330 hours, where she was sleeping and hacked her to death with a machete.

He later attempted to commit suicide by slashing himself, but the excruciating pain forced him to give up and sought treatment for his wounds at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

There, he is reported to have lied to the nurses that, his wife had inflicted the cuts on him during a scuffle, something, they found unconvincing and called in the police.

What motivated Mpianin to resort to the alleged dastardly act is unclear, and he is now under police guard at the hospital.

An apprentice living with Akyaa, who witnessed the crime, told the media that the suspect on entering the room attacked her mistress with a machete.

She (witness) shouted for help, but the suspect turned on her, inflicting some wounds on her.

According to her, help came a little too late as Akyaa was already dead by the time their neighbours arrived. The suspect had also fled the scene.

The body of the deceased had since been deposited the KATH morgue for autopsy.
