Man arrested for illegally possessing narcotics

The Tarkwa Police have arrested Iddrisu Anas Babao, 27, for possessing narcotics without authority.

Sources close to the Western Regional Crime Office told the Ghana News Ageny on Tuesday at Sekondi that the police received a tip-off that four cartons suspected to contain Indian hemp were kept in a room at the Tarkwa Old Railway Quarters.

The police acted swiftly and went to the place and retrieved 75 slabs of dry leaves believed to be Indian hemp.

Babao was apprehended when a few hours later he went to the police station to claim ownership of the stuff.

He claimed that he bought the substance from Wenchi in the Brong Ahafo Region for distribution to various communities in the Tarkwa-Nsueam Municipality.
