Man allegedly slaughters 80-year-old granny

A young man estimated to be in his 20s, identified only as Yao, on Friday morning (11 November), hacked his 80-year-old grandmother to death in Mafi Tsawula in the Central Tongu district of the Volta Region.

He also attacked his six-year-old sister and a 60-year-old male relative, Lugusi Agbenuenu, with the same machete inflicting severe near-fatal wounds on them.

The two are in a coma and in critical condition at the emergency ward of the Adidome Government Hospital.

The body of the hacked 80-year-old grandmother has also been deposited at the morgue in the same hospital.

It is not clear why the suspect launched the bloody attack on his grandmother and the two others with whom he has been living for the past few days.

Regional correspondent Emmanuel Atukpa reports that the police have arrested and detained the suspect.
