Man, 63 to face the law for indecent assault

Accra, April 9, GNA – A 63 year-old man, George Arthur, alias “God dey” of Agbogbloshie in Accra, who indecently assaulted a seven year-old Class One pupil, would soon be put before court.

Inspector Irene Oppong, Public Relations Officer of Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of Ghana Police, told the GNA that the complainant, who was the mother of the victim, said on March 23, 2008, she was on her way to Agbogbloshie Market when the best friend of the accused hinted her that he had seen Arthur on four occasion insert his finger into the private part of her daughter.

He therefore cautioned the victim’s mother to keep an eye on her. Inspector Irene Oppong said when the complainant returned home that evening she questioned her daughter on the issue and she confirmed that the indecent assault began at the beginning of this year. She said a complaint was lodged at the Old Fadama Police Station and it was subsequently referred to DOVVSU.

Inspector Irene Oppong said a medical test conducted on the victim proved that she had been indecently assaulted.
