Man, 45, crushed to death by truck

Kojokrom (W/R), June 13, GNA 97 Tragedy struck Kojokrom at the weekend when a 45-year old man, Joseph Tawiah, was crushed to death by an articulated truck.

Confirming the tragic incident to the Ghana News Agency on Sunday, the Western Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit, (MTTU) of the Police Service, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Daniel Dzakah, said the accident occurred at 1630 hours last Saturday.

He said an articulated Mercedes truck with registration number GR 2354Z, which was loaded with some bags of fertilizers, was coming from Inchaban towards Takoradi at a top speed.

DSP Dzakah said upon reaching Kojokrom, there was a heavy vehicular traffic on both ends of the road, therefore, the truck tried to stop but lost control of the steering wheel and crashed onto a tipper truck loaded with sand, ahead of it.

Unfortunately, Tawiah, who was on the top of the sand fell on the road and was crushed to death by the articulated truck. The corpse has been deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital pending autopsy.

DSP Dzakah noted that one person also sustained injuries but was treated and discharged on that same day.

Meanwhile, the drivers who were involved in the accident are assisting the police in their investigations.
