Man, 42 defiles 12 years old daughter

A 42-year-old driver has been remanded into custody by an Accra circuit for defiling his 12 year-old daughter at Pokuase.

The accused person, Burt Mensah Ocansey, is currently facing charges of defilement of a child under sixteen years of age, contrary to section 101(2) of act 29/60 as amended by section 11 of act 554/98 and incest contrary to section 105(1) of act 29/60.

The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him by the court presided over by Ms. Sedinam Agbemava

Ocansey has been remanded into custody, to reappear before the court on June 16, 2013.

Presenting the facts of the case to the court, the Prosecuting Officer, Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire, said the 12 year-old victim lived with her 41 year-old father at Pokuase, a suburb of Accra.

The accused person, Burt Mensah Ocansey, also known as Obolo, is a driver. The victim has lived with the accused person since infancy.

According to the Prosecutor, the victim who does not attend school loiters, around in the neighbourhood with other children till her father returns home in the evening.

The victim and the accused person sleep together on the same bed in an uncompleted building.

Detective Atimbire told the court that, in 2011, the accused person had sexual intercourse twice with the victim, knowing very well she was his biological daughter.

The victim, who could no longer stand the ordeal by the father runaway from the house.

He added that a good Samaritan, who saw the victim loitering around, brought her to the Greater Accra Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit to make a report.

The victim was taken to hospital for examination, and a report was submitted on her. The accused person was later arrested, and after the investigation, was arraigned before court.
