The Eastern South Regional Police Command has taken a 37-year-old carpenter, Kwame Arhin — popularly known as Abompe — into custody over the suspected murder of a security guard at Kibi in the Eastern Region.
Police say Arhin was arrested on Sunday, November 16, 2025, after officers found him hiding in a bush close to the Kibi Presbyterian College of Education. His arrest came a day after a distress call reported the killing of a man at Kibi Newtown.
A team of investigators, including officers from the Crime Scene Management Unit, was immediately dispatched to the area near the Kibi Court Complex. There, they discovered the body of the victim, identified as Jonas Baah Sarpong, who worked as a security guard at the Presbyterian College of Education.
The scene was examined before the body was moved to the Kibi Government Hospital mortuary. It was later transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra for further preservation and an autopsy.
Early findings point to a dispute between the suspect and the deceased, which is believed to have escalated into a violent altercation. During the confrontation, Arhin allegedly used a cutlass to slit Sarpong’s throat before escaping.
Police say the suspect is now in custody and will be put before court as investigations continue.
