Man 31, jailed 15 years for defilement

Accra, Jan. 27, GNA – George Boyibo a 31-year-old unemployed was on Tuesday jailed 15 years by An Accra Circuit Court for defiling a six year old girl.

Boyibo, who pleaded not guilty to the charge is also to compensate the victim with 20 million cedis after the sentence. The case has been in court since June 6, 2002.

Police Inspector Mary Agbozo told the court that on June 26, 2002, at 7:30 pm, Boyibo, who lived in the same house with the victim at Maamobi lured her under the cover of darkness and defiled.

She said a witness in the case overheard the victim crying and came out to see Boyibo having sex with the victim at the back of the house. Boyibo took to his heels when he saw the witness.

Inspector Agbozo said a report was made at the Nima Police Station and the complainant in the case was issued with a medical report to send the victim to hospital for examination and treatment. She said Boyibo was later arrested and during interrogation, he denied any knowledge of the offence.
