Man, 25, defiles twins

A 25-YEAR-old unemployed man was remanded into prison custody on Wednesday by an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling a set of twins.

The accused, Anthony Woke, is said to have on March 6, 2015 at Nungua in Accra, had carnal knowledge of the 10- year-old twins.

Woke is alleged to have defiled the children on five separate occasions when their father was not at home.

When the case came up for hearing in a court presided over by Mrs. Rita Agyemang- Budu, the accused denied the offence and was remanded into prison custody to reappear on April 14, 2015.

The facts of the case, as presented by Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbiri, are that the complainant, Innocent Ukachi, is a Nigerian and father of the twins while the accused is a co-tenant of the complainant at Nungua.

He said the victims’ mother died some years ago and as a result they were living with their father and that in the afternoon of the said date, Innocent went to town and left the children at home.

The police officer said in the absence of the father, Woke, with the intent to defile the victims, asked one of them to bring a sachet of pure water to him in his room.

Detective Inspector Atimbiri stated that immediately the victim entered the room with the water, the accused demanded to have carnal knowledge of her. He then instructed her to undress and forcibly had sex with her.

The prosecutor described the act as barbaric and indicated that after that Woke repeated the act on the twin sister.

Detective Inspector Atimbiri further told the court that investigations revealed that Woke had sexual intercourse with the twins on five different occasions in the absence of Innocent and sternly warned them not to tell anybody.

The prosecution stated that the children, out of fear, kept the situation to themselves, but Innocent noticed changes in their walks and questioned them, whereupon they mentioned Woke as the culprit.

A complaint was later lodged at the Nungua DOVVSU, leading to the arrest of the accused.
