KORLE Gonno, a suburb of Accra was thrown into state of shock and grief when residents woke up on Wednesday to the shocking news that a 22-year-old man, had hung himself in his room.
Henry Tetteh Cobblah, alias Tetteh, a casual worker at the Timber Market with two wives, and a father of one, was said to have used an electrical wire to accomplish the bizarre mission.
Narrating the sad incident in an interview, the traumatised father of the deceased, Mr Thomas A. Cobblah, said at about 6 a.m. on that day, he overheard one of his nieces calling Tetteh to get up to go to work.
He said after persistent knocks on the door, “my niece went to the back of the room to check why her cousin was not responding to the call”.
He said since the cousin could not see Tetteh on his bed through the window, he decided to use a knife to force open the window.
“Meanwhile I also went to the scene and started knocking hard at the door thinking he may be fast asleep and the intense noise would wake him up, but all to no avail”,
The deceased’s father said, “I then forced open the door and to my astonishment, there hanged Tetteh dressed in a brown pair of trousers, bare chested, his eyes popping out and saliva coming out of his mouth”.
He said the wailing of people attracted a lot of people from the neighbourhood, especially family members, who wept bitterly.
According to him, they rushed and made a report to the Korle-Bu Police station in Accra who dispatched officers to the scene.
Mr Cobblah could not give any reasons, except to say that the deceased had a quarrel with his wife three days before the incident.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police in-charge of the Korle Bu District, Ms Helena Cobbinah, confirmed the incident and said the body has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy. Investigations continue.
