Man, 20, jailed 16 years for sodomy

Kumasi, June 23, GNA – A circuit court in Kumasi on Thursday sentenced Kwame Faka, a 20-year-old labourer to 16 years imprisonment for having anal sex with a 12-year-old junior secondary school boy. He pleaded guilty to a charge of sodomy and was convicted on his own plea.

Passing sentence, the presiding judge, Mr Richard Mac Kogyapwah observed that the animalistic instinct in unscrupulous individuals such as Faka had led him to have unnatural intercourse with the victim and said people like him were just like animals and needed to be quarantined from society for a very long time. He expressed the hope that by the end of the sentence, the convict would have erased such tendencies from his behaviour. Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) George Appiah-Sekyi told the court that the convict had been accommodated by the victim’s father (complainant in the case) and shared a room with the victim. He said on June 9 this year, Faka jumped on the victim while he was fast asleep and after tying him with a rope to the bed had anal sex with him and threatened to kill him if he dare tell anyone about his ordeal. ASP Appiah-Sekyi said the victim who could not stand the pain he was going through disclosed the matter to his parents and they made a report to the police.
