Man, 18, arrested for defiling pupil, 14

The Ho Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) has arrested an 18-year-old second-hand clothes dealer, Israel Amu Fiattor, for allegedly defiling a 14- year old pupil.

Ms Alice Harlley, the Ho DOVVSU Station Officer, who briefed the Ghana News Agency (GNA), on Tuesday, said at dawn on August 28, this year, Fiattor met the victim returning from an all night church service, and he held her from behind and threatened to kill her with a knife if she shouted.

Ms Harlley said Fiattor carried the victim on his shoulder into his room not far from the scene and defiled her at knife-point.

She said Fiattor removed GH¢25.00 from the victim’s purse and asked her to accompany him to Accra.

Ms Harlley said the victim convinced Fiattor to allow her to take some dresses for the journey.

The station officer said the victim narrated her ordeal to a “good Samaritan,” who advised her to report the case to the police.

Ms Harlley said after his arrest, Fiattor fell unconscious and was taken to the Volta Regional Hospital, but he tried to escape when he requested to visit the washroom, and was re-arrested.

She said Fiattor, who was arrested in 2010 for abduction and for rape in 2011, feigned sickness in both instances and discouraged the complainants and investigators from pursuing the cases.

Ms Harlley said in all the three instances that Fiattor was arrested; his upkeep and hospital bills were borne by the unit as his family stayed away from him.

She said the unit had already spent GH¢150 on him.
