Mamprugu Overlord resolves Konkomba-Bimoba conflict

The Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional area, the Nayiri has effectively settled the feud between the rival Bimobas and Konkombas who clashed in a bloody conflict about two weeks ago which led to the death of three people in Kpemale, a village in the Bunkpurugu District.

Several houses were also torched in the conflict.

After a four-hour meeting with the Chiefs of both ethnic groups on Saturday March 16, 2013, the Nayiri ruled that the Bimobas should continue to pay homage to the Nankpanduri Chief who is a Bimoba whereas the Konkombas should also continue to pay homage to the Chief of Kpemale who happens to be a Konkomba.

Although some Konkombas live within the traditional jurisdiction of the Nankpanduri Chief, they have never paid homage to him because he is a Bimoba. The same applies to Bimobas who live within the Jurisdiction of the Kpemale Chief.

As far as the piece of land over which the two ethnic groups clashed is concerned, the Paramount Chief ruled that none of the two sides should lay claim to the property.

The Nayiri said he will properly demarcate the land in contention.

A local Journalist with LOM 94.7 FM in the area, David Zamana told XYZ News that traditional leaders on both sides expressed satisfaction with the Nayiri’s ruling.
