Mampong Traditional Council honours three citizens

Mampong (Ash), Aug 31, GNA – Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and two other distinguished citizens of Asante-Mampong were at the weekend honoured by Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, Mamponghene, for excelling in their various professions.

The traditional council conferred the title of honorary citizen of the Asante-Mampong Traditional Area on Prof Akosa, Right Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and Madam Afua Ansaa Ampene, hostess of ‘Mmaa Nkommo’ television talk show at a colour durbar at Mampong.

In a citation, Daasebre Osei Bonsu chronicled the achievements of Prof Akosa both locally and internationally from 1973 when he enrolled in the University of Ghana Medical School to 2004 when he was elected as President of the Commonwealth Medical Association. It said Prof Akosa, apart from being an accomplished academic in medical pathology, has also managed well the Ghana Health Service as Chief Executive Officer since 2002.

For Rt Rev Frimpong-Manso, the traditional council said the honour was in recognition and appreciation of his “tremendous contributions to the promotion of the life and image of the traditional area, total commitment to the cause of the church and the nation.”

Daasebre Osei Bonsu also highlighted the immense impact “Mmaa Nkommo” that literally means “women issues” has made on policy formulation and decisions concerning women and children in Ghana. The Mamponghene acknowledged that her programme’s popularity, consistency in the variety of topics discussed, its informative and educative nature has won the hearts of many people both locally and internationally.
