Mampong Millennium Challenge Account Advisory Committee meets

Mampong (Ash), May 27, GNA – The Asante-Mampong Municipal Assembly Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) Advisory committee has appealed to the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) to come out with specific physical projects meant for beneficiary communities in the municipality for implementation.

It is the view of the committee that if the communities become aware of such development projects, they will appreciate it and give their support.

This came out during the advisory committee first half-year meeting at Asante-Mampong on Tuesday to discuss issues pertaining to the implementation of projects under the MCA in the municipality. They said apart from activities of Farmer Based Organisations (FBOs) under the agriculture component of the project, nothing was being done under the two other areas of transportation and rural development and called on the MiDA to expedite action before the project estimated to cost 547 million dollars comes to an end by 2011. Addressing the meeting Mr Selasi Adjorlolo, Community and Public Outreach Manager of MiDA, assured the committee that all projects earmarked under the programme would be executed after careful monitoring and evaluation of all ongoing projects.

He said under the agriculture project, 850 farmers from 17 FBOs in the municipality have been trained and given the necessary technical and material inputs to support their farming activities. He said 35 schools within the three MCA operational zones were selected and rehabilitated last year while 10 irrigation projects, two of which are in the Mampong municipality and Sekyere Central District had been selected for rehabilitation. Mr Adjorlolo said the completion of the irrigation projects would enable the farmers to produce vegetables and rice throughout the year.

Mr Daniel Appau Ohyeamang, the Municipal Chief Executive, urged the committee members to pay regular visits to the beneficiary communities to monitor and evaluate projects in their area to enable them to provide advice and input to the MiDA.
