Malian with short gun arrested

Bawku (U/E) April 6, GNA-A Malian, Ibrahim Agaissa, who concealed a short gun under a passengers’ bus bound for Kumasi has been arrested by the Bawku police. According to Police Chief Superintendent Emmanuel K. Bledjumah, Bawku Divisional Police Commander, policemen at the Tilli Forest checkpoint conducted a search on a Kumasi-bound Neoplan bus with registration number ER1143W at about 2300 hours on Tuesday. He said his men found a baikal SB short gun, one empty shell and 40 cartridges wrapped in a cloth and concealed in a bag under one of the bus seats.

Chief Superintendent Bledjumah said when the police asked of the owner, Agaissa claimed ownership and also produced a covering document. He said Agaissa’s document indicated that the gun was licensed in 1998 but got expired in March 2004.

He said the suspect has been granted a police enquiry bail in the sum of two million cedis and would be reporting to the police twice a week.
