Malfeasance in Security service pay offices

Takoradi, Oct. 27, GNA – Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, Minister of Interior has expressed his resentment about cases of financial malfeasance at the Police pay offices.

He said presently, investigations were on-going in the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) into financial malfeasance at their pay offices. Mr. Owusu-Agyeman disclosed these at an interaction with the Police Service at Takoradi as part of his two-day working visit to the Western Region.

He said daily reports of criminal activities in some pay offices were not encouraging and a disgrace to the affected organisation. “Those found to be involved in such acts would be arrested and prosecuted after the necessary investigations,” he stressed.

Mr. Owusu-Agyeman cautioned Policemen who participate or give their weapons to armed robbers, to stop or when they were found out, they would be dismissed from the service and prosecuted.

“The public would not be willing to give you information that would lead to the arrest of criminals in their communities if they know you are involved in robbery,” he added.

Mr. Owusu-Agyeman reminded them that any officer who misuses his or her weapon, leading to the loss of lives and property, would also be treated as a civilian, irrespective of the number of years spent in the service. He assured the Police that their long service award scheme would be re-instituted and urged them to work hard.

Mr. Joseph B. Aidoo, Western Regional Minister told the personnel that anyone who worked excellently would be promoted while those who tarnished the image of the Police Service would be dismissed. He charged them to live by their oaths and safeguard lives and property.
