Malaria tops diseases at Asasetre health Centre

Asasetre (W/R), July 26, GNA – Children between one and five years old lead in malaria cases at the Asasetre Health Centre in the Ellembele district of the Western Region, local health official said on Friday. Miss Margaret Buah, medical superintendent of the centre, told the Ghana News Agency at Asasetre that malaria had been identified as the major killer in the area and urged the people to ensure environmental cleanliness so as to destroy mosquito breeding grounds. She said the Centre had treated more than 1,000 malaria patients between January and June this year. Miss Buah attributed the high rate of malaria in the area to the inability of many parents to provide bed-nets for their children. She stated that Atesunate-Ammodiaquine combination drug had been identified as the frontline treatment for malaria.
