Kumasi, July 9, GNA – Mr Kwasi Adu-Amankwah, Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has called on Union leaders at all levels to devise innovative strategies that will make the organisation more attractive.
He said with a new labour law in the offing, the survival and growth of the TUC would depend on the attractiveness and pursuit of its activities.
“The passage of the law will likely see the formation of different labour unions and so the ability of the TUC to retain its position and win more members into its fold will greatly depend on the attractions of our activities.”
Mr Adu-Amankwah, was swearing-in members of the new Executive of the Ashanti Regional Council of Labour at the close of its two-day quadrennial meeting in Kumasi on Wednesday.
Miss Georgina Opoku Amankwah, who was re-elected unopposed as chairperson of the Regional Council of Labour, gave the assurance that her leadership will work tirelessly to maintain the dominant role the TUC had played in labour issues even in the face of challenges. She appealed to members to study the structures and policies of the Union so that they would be in a better position to enlighten and entice more people to join the fold.
In the election, Mr Omane Agyekum polled 22 votes to beat Mr Stephen Boakye, who had five votes for the post of Regional Vice-Chairman, while the position of Regional Second Vice-chairman went to Miss Christiana Acquah Harrison.
