Make political parties code available to your members -NCCE

Kuntanase (Ash), Sept 17, GNA – Political parties have been asked to make the political parties code available to their members and educate them on the need to put the code of ethnics into practice.

Mr Kusi Aborah, Ashanti Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) who made the call, said the code of ethics spells out clearly what they were supposed to say and not say and how to co-exist peacefully.

He was addressing representatives of the NDC, NPP, PNC, CPP, churches, chiefs and other stakeholders on the need for violence-free elections before, during and after the December polls at Kuntanase in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district on Thursday.

Mr Aborah urged the parties to address issues instead of inciting people to fight and asked the chiefs and other opinion leaders to meet members and leaders of the various political parties in the district regularly to settle issues that could spark off conflicts.

He commended the district assembly for commencing work on the 117 million-cedi office for the NCCE to replace the old and dilapidated structure housing the Commission at Kuntanase.

Mr Samuel Aburam Asamoah, the NCCE District Director, asked the parties to watch their utterances so as to avoid conflict situations arising out of such utterances.

Mr C.S. Dery, District Officer in-charge of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), cautioned political functionaries against removing the posters and banners of their political opponents since it was a sure recipe for conflict.
