Accra, Sept 11, GNA – Parents and Teachers have been urged to make an indelible impression on the memory of children on their first day in school to spur them on to attain laurels in their academic pursuit. This was stated by Mr Jonathan Nii Tackie Komme, Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo when he welcome Primary Class One pupils on their first day in schools within the constituency in Accra on Tuesday. He noted that such a memory on the minds of children would motivate them to develop interest in school and encourage them to take their studies seriously.
It would also urge them on to remain in school to the highest level for the benefit of the country, parents and the children. Nii Tackie Komme advised the class one pupils to respect their teachers, parents and elders and to be regular and punctual in school. “Take your studies seriously”, he told the children and advised them to brush their teeth and have their bath early in the morning to go to school.
He appealed to teachers to treat their pupils like their own children and to develop keen interest in their development The MP distributed exercise books, pens and pencils, erasers, crayons, biscuits and chocolate to the Primary Class One pupils. The schools visited by Nii Tackie Komme were Richard Akwei Memorial, the14 schools forming the Ayalolo Cluster of Schools, St Mary’s, Adedenkpo Primary One and two, Bishop’s Primary, the 28th February Schools, Independence Avenue and Derby Avenue Primary Schools. At the Ayalolo Cluster Schools the Odododiodoo MP’s entourage dumped into Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister of Women and Children Affairs who was also there to welcome the Primary Class one pupils on their first day in school.
The Minister who told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that she had already been to the Nima Cluster of schools also distributed cups, miniature flags of Ghana, biscuits, toffee and fruit drinks to the pupils.
Hajia Alima asked the pupils to be regular in school and led the children in reciting poems and singing.
At the Ayalolo Cluster of Schools some of the teachers appealed for the construction of a fence wall around the compound and complained about leaking roofs and poorly illuminated classrooms.
Speaking to the GNA Nii Tackie Komme advised parents to provide the needs of the children to enable them to study describing education as “the only lasting legacy parents can bequeath to their children”. The Odododiodoo MP who was accompanied by the NDC Constituency Chairman, Mr Daniel Nii Okai, asked parents to make the education of their children their top priority instead of spending their resources on fashion and other social activities. 11 Sept 07
