Majority in Parliament mourns Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

The Majority Caucus in Parliament, led by its leader, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has expressed shock and sadness over the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

She died on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra, aged 76 after a short illness.

In a statement by the Majority “The Majority Caucus in Parliament of Ghana has learnt with shock, the reported sudden death of Her Excellency, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings… May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. She paid her dues to this Country”.

The caucus further extended its deepest condolences to the family and the nation, acknowledging her contributions to Ghana.

“On behalf of the entire Majority Members of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Speaker Bagbin and the entire Parliament of Ghana, we wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family and the Nation for this great loss” the statement reads.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was a pioneering advocate for women’s empowerment and social justice through the 31st December Women’s Movement.

May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. She paid her dues to this Country,” the statement added.

She served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001 and later became a notable political figure.
