Major streets at Old Tafo to be tarred – Deputy Minister

Kumasi, Nov. 19, GNA – Streets in Old Tafo in the Kumasi Metropolis are soon t be tarred as work on the project progress steadily, Dr Anthony Akoto-Osei, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, has said.

He has therefore called on the people to close their ranks and support the development cause of the government to uplift the image of the township.

Mr Akoto-Osei, who is also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Tafo-Pankrono, said this at the inauguration of two 10-seater toilets costing 150 million cedis each at Santan and Ahenbronum areas at Old Tafo in Kumasi.

The ‘Enviroloo” type of toilet replicated from Zimbabwe has many advantages over the traditional KVIP in that it does not need water and any chemicals to operate and there is a self-regulating fan to expunge the faecal odour and ensures clean air around the toilet area.

Inaugurating the projects, Nana Agyen Frimpong II, Tafohene, commended the government for the facilities and stressed that they would help to reduce indiscriminate defecating in the township.

He urged users of the facility to consider the facilities as their personal property by giving it the needed and maximum care for them to last.

Mr Francis Ampadu, Assembly Member for Ahenbronum praised Dr Akoto-Osei for his untiring efforts to bring more development projects to the people.

He said through Dr Akoto-Osei, there had been continuous garbage collection and that he had personally provided 35 poles for the extension of electricity to some areas in the town and also helped in the rehabilitation of streetlights and water systems.
