The National Democratic Congress-led government is not accountable to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), a member of the government’s communications machinery has said.
Speaking on TV3’s News @10 over the week, Sam George said the NDC is rather accountable “to the good people of Ghana”.
He was speaking in reaction to a public forum held by the leading opposition party to assess the first year performance of President John Dramani Mahama.
Sam George imputed NPP’s assessment of the Mahama-led government to a party on the verge of implosion and so Ghanaians should not take them serious.
According to him, “we are on track to fulfilling our mandate”, pointing out that President Mahama’s first year achievements, in the face of difficulties, he admits, compares favourably with that of John Agyekum Kufuor.
He assured that all the promises of the NDC as expounded in its 2012 manifesto will be achieved before the end of President Mahama’s first term.
“If you do a 25 per cent take of [NDC’s] manifesto,” Sam George explains, mathing one out of the four years, that “the NDC has done marvelously well.”
These were, however, sharply countered by a member of the NPP Communications Team, Nana Kofi Damoah, who was also on the programme.
He indicated that the NDC has failed Ghanaians.
He cited the increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) levies and the removal of subsidies on utility tariffs as some decisions that are going to make Mahama’s second year a more difficult one for Ghanaians.
