Mahama’s free boarding school promise is campaign talk – Educationist

Educationist and lecturer at the Methodist University, Dr. Osei Mensah Bonsu, says the free boarding system announced by President Mahama over weekend is just a mere campaign talk.

During the 70th anniversary celebration of Aburi Girls Senior High School at Aburi in the Eastern Region on Saturday, President Mahama said, “This year in August, we hope to launch the programme to cover boarding students in deprived communities”.

However, speaking on the AM Drive show Monday, Dr. Osei Mensah Bonsu stated that President John Dramani Mahama’s free day school project has not been efficient enough and that the free senior high boarding project, could suffer similar fate.

According to Dr. Osei Mensah Bonsu, he lives near one of the day schools in the country and he is aware of some of the difficulties the school goes through financially. He added that this is nothing but just one of the numerous campaign talks which presidential aspirants usually engage in prior to elections.

He mentioned that this initiative is very good but as to whether it is feasible or not is something that needs to be considered.
