“Mahama talks too much but does very little” – Gyan-Baffour

President John Mahama is full of talk without action, a former Deputy Finance Minister in the Kufuor administration, Prof George Gyan-Baffour has told Bernard Nasara Saibu in Parliament moments after the President finished delivering his third state of the nation address Thursday February 26, 2015.

“He talks too much and does very little,” the Wenchi Member of Parliament of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) said in his post-state of the nation address analysis.

According to him, the President’s speech on Thursday was a mere repetition of the same things he said previous years.

Buttressing his claim, Prof Gyan-Baffour cited, for example that the President’s promise to increase Ghana’s installed energy capacity to 5,000 during his tenure, has become a tired promise which has been repeated ad nauseum.

Ghana is currently shedding between 400 and 700 Megawatts of power between off-peak and peak periods due to a production shortfall which has resulted from a combination of factors.

Prof Baffour-Gyan said President Mahama must learn from the example of former President John Kufuor by constituting a committee to find a solution to the power crisis.

Responding to the assertions of Prof Gyan-Baffour, Chairman of the finance and economic committee of Parliament James Klutse Avedzi said the President’s speech reflected the true state of the nation, adding that the Government is working towards ending the power crisis and its attendant economic problems.
