National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Bulsa North Constituency, James Agaga, has stated that President Mahama has been charitable to the opposition NPP by intending to invite 4,800 witnesses to testify in the election petition at the Supreme Court.
According to the MP, the president’s decision to call on 4,800 witnesses from various constituencies is not absurdity and deliberate attempt to delay court proceedings, but a pragmatic step to prove his innocence.
Speaking on Citi FM, the MP who doubles as legal practitioner stressed that “the elections were run in 26,000 polling stations so in other to establish that you are innocent, you didn’t dabble in any fraud and that your election was valid in accordance with law, what do you do?,
“You will call evidence from all the polling stations to prove your case. So the 4,800 witnesses the legal team of the president interns to call in my estimation could even have been more because we have to validate the elections in all the 26,000 polling stations”.
The Bulsa North legislator claimed that the opposition NPP is short of giving specifics in their petition.
“The NPP haven’t given us particulars of the irregularities they are talking about, they have made general statements in their pleadings, I have seen their petition and for instance they have not mentioned that polling station A or B in the Bulsa North Constituency, certain irregularities occurred. Remember the cardinal rule in trial is that hear-say evidence is inadmissible”.
Mr Agaga further condemned utterances by some opposition members describing John Mahama as illegitimate President.
According to him, those acrimonies do not exist in the national constitution.
