Mahama must not be contested – Uni don

President John Dramani Mahama must not be contested for the National Democratic Congress’ 2016 presidential slot, a university lecturer is suggesting.

According to Yarhands Dissou Arthur of the College of Technology Education, University of Education, Winneba, the NDC must make sure Mahama goes unopposed.

He said going unchallenged will forestall any “needless distractions” in the ruling party, as well as “maintain rock solid front.”

In a statement to the media, Arthur said it would be politically unwise and disadvantageous for any member of the party in good standing to run against the sitting President, if the NDC was really serious about winning the next general elections.

However, he said it is within everyone’s right and democratic to challenge the president, but “this right should be weighed against the overall interest and the party’s electoral fortunes.”

According to him, Mahama is the best bet and that there should be no motivation or “appetite for anybody to attempt to stir any confusion and create cracks.”
