Mahama has forsaken us – Bolga residents

Some residents of the Upper East region on Thursday poured onto the streets of the regional capital, Bolgatanga, to register their displeasure over what they describe as neglect by President John Mahama.

They accuse the President of failing to honor his promises to the people of the Upper East.

President Mahama on a working visit to region pledged that his government will ensure that the defunct factories and other stalled development projects will be revamped to provide jobs for the youth in order to reduce the migration to the southern sector in search of jobs.

The demonstrators, however, say none of President Mahama’s promises have seen the light of day. They believe the only way to get their grievances heard is through demonstrations.

The demonstrators; mostly members of the opposition New Patriotic Party, carried placards with various inscriptions such as; where is Ghana heading to Mr President?, when will the corruption in the country end? Our own is killing us, where is the Brazil world cup budget? and a host of others.

This is the first time such a demonstration has been staged in the region against government.

The demonstration which saw heavy security presence was dubbed “la wun tu m3? meaning “we are suffering”.
