Mahama government hopelessly confused – KT Hammond

The Ranking Member on the Energy Committee of Parliament K.T Hammond says the Mahama-led administration is “hopelessly confused” on how to solve the country’s energy crisis.

Despite government earlier announcing that Ghana’s power crisis has been solved, recent power cuts show the country has returned to the crisis, leading to calls for a load shedding timetable to be released.

The energy crisis popularly known as ‘dumsor’ is even likely to worsen after it emerged that the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCO) has suspended gas flow to Ghana over unpaid bills by government.

The Volta River Authority (VRA) owes Nigeria’s N-gas around 180 million dollars, while N- Gas in turn owes WAPCO 104 million dollars.

Petroleum Minister Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah in an interview with Starr News assured that government’s debt to WAPCO is being sorted out.

But in a sharp rebuttal Hon. KT Hammond who is also Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa stated that the minister’s claims are untrue.

He told Starr FM’s Parliamentary correspondent Kobby Gomez Mensah that an Akufo-Addo administration will save Ghana from the energy mess created by the Mahama administration.

“Vote this government out and an NPP government under Akufo-Addo will sort out this mess. We sorted it out under the Kufuor administration and we promised that it was never going to happen again.

“They said they knew what the problem was, they knew the prescription, it found its way into the party manifesto and then here we are, hopelessly, uselessly, completely confused, convoluted they can’t get it done and they know it, vote them out,” Hon. Hammond said.
