Mahama gives cash to Chiefs

President John Dramani Mahama has presented Ghc50,000.00 to Eastern Regional House of Chiefs in fulfilment of his pledge to the House last year.

The President, during his thank you tour to the region last March, cut the sod for the construction of a multi-purpose office for the Regional House of Chiefs and pledged to donate the amount as his widow’s mite to the project.

Presenting the cheque on behalf of President Mahama, Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, Regional Minister, said the Head of State is committed to improve chieftaincy affairs in the region and would not renege on his promise to Ghanaians.

Receiving the cheque, Barima Adjei Twinin, Chairman of the Building Committee and Gwantuahene of Akyem Abuakwa, thanked the President for fulfilling his promise to the Regional House of Chiefs.

He said the chiefs would use the money exactly for the purpose it was donated and appealed for more offers from corporate organisations and individual philanthropists.

Barima Twinin assured the government of the Regional House of Chiefs’ support in ensuring development in the country.
