Mahama deserves plaudits for… – Kobby Acheampong

The National Coordinator of Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), Kobby Acheampong, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for raising awareness about the impact of terrorism on nations.

President John Dramani Mahama, delivering a speech at the 69th UN General Assembly in New York called on world leaders to curb the menace.

As ECOWAS Chairman, President Mahama bemoaned the existence of terrorist groups in Africa, stating that “60% of Africans are under the age of 35 and majority live in extreme poverty” and so, this fuels the rate of terrorist attacks on the continent.

“This offers terrorists the chance to recruit young ones who lack the skills and education to gain decent employment.”

“In this age of terrorism and political turmoil, national and relational and ethnic conflict, it may be tempting to use the actions of a few to justify prejudice towards many. It may be tempting to combine the faithful with the fanatical. But those of us who envision a just and peaceful world cannot and should not yield to those temptations,” he told the assembly.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo, Kobby Acheampong commended the President for bringing the issue of terrorism to the fore at the gathering.

He also lamented about some incidents of terrorist attacks in African countries. According to him, terrorism has plagued the African continent for ages; majorly resulting from religious conflicts.

The terrorist sect destructs countries and people; a clear example is Boko Haram in Nigeria, Kobby Acheampong cited.

He therefore called for a swift response from the assembly to curb the situation.
