Mahama collapsed Kufuor’s social intervention programmes – NPP

A communications team member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Mawuli Nanegbe has chided the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), for claims that the NDC has collapsed Kufuor’s social intervention programmes.

Communicators of the largest opposition party have accused President John Mahama and the NDC administration of supervising the collapse of social intervention policies introduced by the erstwhile Kufuor administration.

The opposition party has consistently said the NDC instead of working to add to the social interventions as a self-described social democratic government, has rather supervised their gradual collapse.

But responding to the claims, Koku Mawuli Nanegbe said, the interventions which the NPP introduced were all in comatose before they left office.

He indicated that the Metro Mass Transit System (MMT) owed Ghana Oil Company (GOIL), to the tune of GHC 40 million cedis which the late Mills administration paid. Aside that the NHIS which the NPP said is near collapse under the NDC was in limbo under the NPP.

According to him, a report released by the World Health Organisation (WHO), said the health insurance couldn’t go beyond five years.

The NDC government he added had gone beyond the five years projected by the WHO and currently have adopted measures to look at the sustainability aspect of the scheme.

‘By the time President Kufuor left, all his programmes were in comatose,’ he stated.

The school feeding programme under the NPP he explained, was bizarre as an audit report revealed that the beneficiaries were fed with worm infested foods; a situation he said led to the withdrawal of sponsorship by the Dutch government.

But currently more than 1.3 million children are being fed and this is solely funded by the government of Ghana, he stressed.

He was speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM with the morning show host, Kwame Tutu.

Meanwhile, speaking on the same show, communications team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Emmanuel Danso Attefah refuted the assertions by Mawuli stating that, the NPP managed the interventions very well and left them in good shape.

However, the NDC he noted has supervised the collapse of all these interventions. The lives of Ghanaians were transformed by the NPP but currently, the lives of citizens have been transformed from good to worse.

The transforming lives and changing Ghana touted by the ruling government he stressed, is deceptive because all is clear to individuals that the transformation is negative.
