Mahama can achieve economic independence for Ghana-NGM

Accra, Nov.23, GNA – Dr. Edward Mahama, People’s National Convention (PNC), presidential candidate for Election 2008, is the only contestant who can institute comprehensive economic policies towards self-reliant instead of Ghana depending on donor agencies for support to sustain the economy.

A government under Dr. Mahama’s would pursue pragmatic policies that would turn out the calibre of experts, patriotic scientists and people who can effectively manage the nation’s economy. These were contained in statement signed by Mr. Kofi Kankam, Ashanti Regional Representative of the New Ghanaian Movement (NGM), a political think tank.

It said “Dr. Mahama’s main message is “Economic independence now”, because the party was determined to use agriculture to help the economy to grow. People should discard the perception that Dr. Mahama cannot win this year’s election.”

The statement said majority of the Ghanaian electorate have tried the governments of National Democratic Congress and New Patriotic Party and it was about time a PNC-led government was given a try. “In deepening participatory democracy at the grassroots with community involvement, the PNC Leader would ensure that the positions of Municipal/Metropolitan Director and District Chief Executive (M/DCE) shall be elective to further foster community self-help projects.” The statement said Dr Mahama would also make moves to reconcile the many persons living with psychological trauma and bitterness as a result of the tyranny and hash polices of previous governments. It said this could be achieved by pursuing genuine reconciliation devoid of vengeance under his administration.

The statement said Dr. Mahama proved at presidential debates in Accra and Tamale that he was the best among all the presidential candidates.
