President John Dramani Mahama has urged politicians to eschew the politicization of national discourse and embrace cogent dialogue to promote national development.
He said politicians are at liberty to have different shades of opinions but must be directed at enhancing the stability of the nation.
“The people of Ghana demand from us [politicians] partnership and not partisanship. We need to shelve the politics and come together as one nation for the glory of Ghana,” the president advised.
Delivering the state of the nation address to parliament on Friday, President Mahama was emphatic that ill-conceived criticisms and arguments have the tendency of compromising national cohesion and growth.
“The people of this nation elected us all to work together and we owe them that much. What they demand from us is partnership and not partisanship.
“They put us all right here in the same canoe, they gave us all paddles and they told us to row this country gently onto the road to recovery of growth and shared prosperity and that is the direction I believe we should take this country,” the statement said.
President Mahama was of the firm opinion that despite the growing challenges and hardships, Ghana’s economy over the years remained resilient and robust.
