Mahama, Akufo-Addo to meet Wednesday

Presidential Candidates in the 2012 elections have scheduled a high profile meeting between President John Dramani Mahama and Nana Akufo-Addo on Wednesday.

PNC’s Flagbearer in the last elections, Hassan Ayariga, who is spearheading the meeting, disclosed this to Radio Ghana’s correspondent.

Mr. Ayariga said the meeting will hinge on talks with contenders in the election petition, Nana Akufo-Addo and President Mahama, to accept the verdict and appeal to their supporters to stay calm when the Supreme Court pronounces judgment.

The Supreme Court on 14 August, after 48 days of hearing both sides of the dispute make their case and present evidence, set August 29 as the day for the verdict on the election petition.

Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Jake Obetsebi Lamptey of the NPP filed a petition at the supreme Court challenging the declaration of President John Mahama of the NDC as the winner of the 2012 December elections by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

The petitioners have alleged massive irregularities in the 2012 elections that brought President Mahama to power.
