Accra, Nov. 19, GNA – The Madina Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of Ghana Police Service on Saturday impounded 23 motorbikes that had no genuine documents. Speaking the GNA, the Divisional MTTU Commander, Assistant Superitendent of Police (ASP) George K Amoako said the operation was to check fake registration and to make sure that all motorbikes carried genuine documents.
ASP Amoako said they wanted to know if the bikes were genuinely cleared from the Tema Port and to find out why most motorbikes did not use the registered DVLA Trade plates. He said arrested with the motorbikes would be put before the Madina Grade One Magistrate’s court.
Inspector R. E.O. Asante of the Unit said the exercise would continue to make sure that motorbikes had correct documents that all riders in the country wore crash helmets. In another development, the District Commander under the Madina Police Divisional Headquarters; Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwabena Antwi-Boasiako told the Ghana News Agency; that three officials of Metro Mass Transit Service had been arrested and placed in Police custody for allegedly selling used tickets to unsuspecting passengers.
DSP Antwi-Boasiako said they would be among the first people to be put before the Madina Grade One Magistrate’s Court, which was inaugurated last Friday.
