Madina Police impound 18 power tiller tankers

Accra, May 23, GNA – The Madina Police have impounded 18 power tillers that have been converted into water tankers for operating without the licence, Commander of the Madina District Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwabena Antwi-Boasiako told the Ghana News Agency over the weekend.

He said the mini water-tankers, which were plying within the Madina-Adenta-Ashaley Botwe areas, were not registered with Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

DSP Antwi-Boasiako said the majority of the drivers of the mini-tankers had no driving licence and the tillers had neither roadworthy certificates nor insurance cover.

“Most of the drivers had often been seen driving on the shoulders of the roads and some had faulty brakes’ He said.

The Police Commander said the mini-tankers had been involved in a number of fatal accidents, adding that he had arranged with the DVLA to register these mini-tankers and their drivers properly before they would be allowed on the roads again.
