Madina Court fines 37 Drivers

Madina (G/A), Sept. 23, GNA – The Madina Divisional Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) arraigned 37 drivers before the Madina Magistrate Court Grade One between January and June 2010, The court presided by Her Worship Mariama Samo fined the drivers a total of A24,570.00 for various traffic offences. Four other drivers were acquitted and discharged. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Madina, the Divisional MTTU Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Charles Ahiamale, said the offences included refusal to renew their roadworthiness and Insurance certificates, and failure to produce their driving licenses. Others are parking at unauthorized places and driving on the shoulders of the road. The rest are Break failure, careless and dangerous driving, ‘picking and dropping’ passengers at unapproved parts of the road. Mr Ahimale reminded drivers to be disciplined on the road. He noted that most drivers did not exercise patience and attributed that to the drivers who did not belong to any of the drivers’ unions. On accidents, he said between January and June 2010, 45 vehicles had been involved in accidents, injuring 47 passengers with two deaths recorded within the period.
