Made-in-India SUVs launched in Ghana

MUMBAI: India’s top utility vehicle maker, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, said on Monday it has launched its Scorpio sport utility and Bolero and Mahindra pick-up trucks in Ghana as it seeks to extend its international presence.

Mahindra will export its vehicles to a distributor in Ghana, Svani Ltd, it said in a statement.

Mahindra, also country’s top tractor maker, already exports to Australia, Chile and Egypt as it cuts its dependence on the local Indian market. It has said it will also export its pick-up trucks and SUVs to Brazil and Turkey and look at other overseas markets.

Mahindra, which will begin selling its SUV and pick-up trucks in the US market in 2008, aims to get about a fifth of its revenue from exports in the next few years, up from 5 per cent.

Mahindra has a joint venture with Navistar International’s International Truck and Engine Corp to make trucks and engines in India.
