‘Mad’ woman gives birth

Residents of New Quarters, a suburb of Ashaiman, are in a state of shock over who the father of a bouncing baby boy who was delivered by a woman believed to be (mentally) deranged might be.

The unidentified woman with mental illness was said to have gone into labour on Sunday night opposite the Church of Christ at New Quarters.

Reports had it that the madwoman used to sleep under a tree around the Church of Christ for almost a year, until she suddenly disappeared and resurfaced about six months later with the pregnancy.

The nursing mother, who is speculated to be called Narkie and hails from Kordiabe in the Eastern Region, was said to have travelled to settle in Ashaiman where she delivered. But as to who impregnated her, the people were yet to know.

Some opinion leaders and mothers in the area stepped in to help cater for the baby, after which the baby was sent to the Ashaiman Polyclinic for medical attention.

The Assembly Member of the Zongo Lakka Electoral Area, Emmanuel Agboson, told DAILY GUIDEthat “This madwoman gave birth to the baby boy by herself without any support in the bush just this Sunday.”

He said the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Ashaiman Divisional Police Command had been informed.

He said some residents saw the woman holding the baby on Monday morning and rushed to her aid.

According to him, efforts are underway to identify the relatives of the woman for the necessary steps to be taken since the police are not showing interest in the matter.

“Let me thank all the opinion leaders who helped to send this child for medical attention today, especially the women and unit committee members,” he stated.

Check at the health facility revealed that the baby was in good health and would be given the needed attention.
