Lutheran Schools train teachers in ICT

Professor Timothy Schumacher, Assistant Professor of Educational Technology at Concordia University, USA, at the weekend exhorted the significance of technology in raising children to become global citizens.

He said digital literacy is an important skill that children require to make them catalysts of change in the society.

Prof Schumacher made was speaking at a training workshop to equip teachers of Evangelical Lutheran Schools with modern day teaching and learning strategies.

“If we can raise the competence of our teachers in the use of technology, our pupils will equally be proficient in Information Communication Technology,” he added.

Prof Schumacher took participants through topics such as Techno-Resistance, Child-driven Education, and Student Blogging.

He led a team of teachers to educate participants on how to create and store documents using the Google Drive.

The objective of the presentation was to introduce teachers to the positive impact Google Drive could have on teaching and learning.

He said Google Drive would enable teachers create, save and share documents with their colleagues and students.

Mr John Abraham, a participant described the excitement Google Drive would inject into teaching.

“We could set assignment for students, give them instant feedbacks on their answers and identify the learning needs.

“This seminar has opened to me a whole new world of teaching and learning strategies,” he said.

Mrs Ekua Mansoa Addae, Communication and Business Manager of Lutheran Schools, said Lutheran Schools has a 40 -year record of delivering first class basic education in Ghana.

She said this year’s staff development workshop marked the climax of a 7-day series of events on educational technology to improve teaching in Lutheran Schools.
