Lower Bobikuma ICT Center becomes white elephant

More than a year since the Second Lady, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur and former Central Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Sarpong, inaugurated Lower Bobikuma ICT Center, the facility is lying idle.

This is because assignments given to the Agona West Municipal Assembly and Municipal Education Office on the ICT Center are yet to be carried out.

Mrs Sarah Oppong, government appointee Assembly Member for Lower Bobikuma, made this known at the third Ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Agona Swedru.

The doors of the facility meant to benefit cluster of schools at Lower Bobikuma and Upper Bobikuma still remain closed as at November 8.

The Agona West Municipal Assembly used its share of the District Development Fund (DDF) to finance the facility.

Mrs Oppong said the Second Lady also stocked the library attached to the ICT Center with books and these are also going waste.

She said the Agona West Assembly had failed to provide chairs and shelves to display the books.

Mrs Oppong said the Assembly and GES had not posted ICT teachers to the Center.

The Assembly has also failed to provide burglary proof to prevent stealing of the computers, compelling the chief and elders of the town to engage a watchman to man the place to avoid stealing of the items.

According to her, the community had connected electricity to the place after the Assembly had failed to do so.

Mrs Oppong appealed to the Second Lady and the Central Regional Minister to ensure that the ICT Center s operational.

The Municipal Coordinator Director, Mr Peter Boasiako, said the Assembly would look for funds to put the facility into use.
